A reflection of light
As I look out the window, I see a house with other windows.
In these windows I see reflections of what is on the other side.
This reflection is not visible around the building, just within the squares of its windows.
The reflection does not come from where I sit.
It does not come from the room I am in or what surrounds me.
It comes from beyond.
It is a mixture of light; clouds have been colored by sun, and it is reflected within the windows. It tells me that even if I can't see the light from where I am sitting, the reflections of it can remind me that the sun is still shining.
It is a new morning.
A new day.
The light of this day is a reflection of an eternal day.
The beauty of this earth, is a reminder of an eternal world.
However,
This earth is filled with darkness.
A darkness that can be so painful, consuming and impossible to understand.
Then again I am reminded.
We were not created to get lost in the darkness.
Even if we have to sometimes live in it, our purpose is not to disappear into it.
Our purpose is to be found within it.
Our purpose is to see the light amongst it.
Even if this light is merely a reflection of a light from a different place.
This light is beauty, this light is love, and this light is worth living for.
This light goes beyond us.
This light lives within us.
Sometimes it is hidden.
Sometimes it is forgotten.
It is when we can't see it we hurt the most.
Sometimes the light burns.
Like fire.
It tries to burn away everything that is covering up the light.
It hurts.
Let the fire of the light burn away what the heart does not need.
Let the light consume you.
Psalm 139.9-12: If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
